Welcome 2017! I rang in the New Year in the dense trees of the Nantahala National Forest near Franklin, North Carolina with my Chihuahua partner in crime, Lola. There’s nothing better than packing up your car with the essentials and hitting the road for new adventures.
From Nashville, I drove to Sweetwater, TN to explore the United States largest underground lake and registered national landmark. In my life, I swear I never even knew this existed. Surprisingly, the caves maintain a comfortable temperature of 58 degrees Fahrenheit all year round!
As you begin to descend into the caves, you are received by a bright yellow tunnel which I shot with my GoPro HERO Session (100% recommend this GoPro model).
Unfortunately, the lighting in the caves was not adequate for taking great photos. However, I did include one of a waterfall inside the cave.
So after the Lost Sea Adventure was over, Lola and I headed to North Carolina to hike and camp over the New Years weekend. The weather was not cooperative and there were intermittent rain showers every few hours or so. The temperature at night dropped to about 33 degrees Fahrenheit. We made camp, unpacked, fashioned tarps under and over the tent and made a fire. I packed a few comforts from home to celebrate the coming of the new year..
We hiked all day Sunday, January 1st in various locations including the Nantahala National Forest, Pisguh National Forest, Max Patch and part of the Appalachian Trail. Here are my favs:
